Borno State Unveils N2.5bn Scholarship for Aviation Students

On Thursday, Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State unveiled a N2.5 billion scholarship program for students at Isaac Balami University, Africa's first indigenous aviation university.

During a cheque presentation ceremony at the Government House in Maiduguri, Zulum commended the university's founder, Isaac Balami, for his commitment to education. The scholarship will benefit 54 indigenous students, with Zulum directing that vulnerable students be considered for future admissions.

He emphasized the importance of academic dedication and the need for students to become good ambassadors for the state. Additionally, Zulum announced financial support of N500,000 for students to assist with resumption expenses.

The state's Commissioner for Education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilb, reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring the scholarship program's success, noting that 3,000 applications were received, with 1,200 shortlisted for written examinations.

The initiative aims to produce highly skilled professionals who will contribute meaningfully to the state and nation.
