Troops Rescue 92 Civilians from Insurgents in Borno

On May 23, 2026, Nigerian troops successfully rescued 92 civilians who had been abducted by insurgents in Borno State. The operation was carried out by the 135 Special Forces Battalion as part of Operation Hadin Kai, a joint task force aimed at countering insurgency in the northeast.

Utilizing surveillance systems, the troops spotted insurgents ambushing a civilian vehicle near Duts Kura. A quick reaction force was deployed to support the operation, which involved engaging the insurgents and pursuing them towards the Mangari Dora area.

During the operation, the troops encountered three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by the insurgents along the route to slow military advancement. The military ordnance team safely detonated the devices, allowing for further pursuit of the insurgents.

No soldiers were killed or injured during the operation, and the rescued civilians received immediate welfare support before being escorted to Damaturu.
