Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack, Rescue Nine in Borno

Nigerian troops, under the command of Lt. Col.

Haruna M. Sani, successfully repelled a Boko Haram attack in Borno State on June 12, 2026.

During operations conducted from June 11 to 12, the military rescued nine abducted civilians, including three children identified as Ali Usman (15), Umar Ibrahim Abubakar (15), and Fatima Abubakar (12). The children escaped from a terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountain area following sustained military offensives.

Additionally, troops rescued six civilians during a foiled kidnapping attempt along the Damasak-Gubio supply route. The military also intercepted and arrested several suspects linked to terrorist activities, recovering weapons and supplies intended to support insurgent operations.

The troops faced a major attack from Boko Haram fighters, which was decisively repelled with artillery and mortar fire support. The military reported significant casualties among the insurgents and confirmed that one soldier sustained injuries from a rocket-propelled grenade fragment.
