Borno Governor Zulum Unveils 30 Trucks for Road Projects

On Tuesday, Borno Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum unveiled 30 trucks intended to boost road construction efforts across the state.

This initiative is part of measures to address the rising project costs associated with persistent insecurity. During a brief ceremony at the Government House in Maiduguri, Zulum noted that the acquisition of these trucks would significantly strengthen the operational capacity of the Ministry of Works and the Borno State Road Maintenance Agency.

The trucks are expected to enable faster and more efficient delivery of road infrastructure projects. Zulum highlighted that ongoing security challenges in the state deter local and international contractors from executing projects, as insurance firms are reluctant to provide coverage due to security risks and difficult terrain.

To overcome these constraints, the government is investing in building internal capacity, including establishing a quarry plant in Pulka valued at 3 billion Naira with a production capacity of 120 tons per hour. The governor identified several strategic road corridors for intervention and plans to procure an additional 30 trucks by the end of his administration.
