BPP Chief Urges INEC to Enhance Procurement for 2027

Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, emphasized the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to strengthen its procurement systems to ensure the integrity of the electoral process in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking at a capacity-building program organized in Lagos, he highlighted that credible elections depend on sound procurement practices, which are central to public trust and national stability. Adedokun noted that when procurement processes are executed correctly, they go unnoticed, but when they fail, the entire nation feels the impact.

He stressed the importance of building capacity among procurement workers and warned against over-reliance on technology and single vendors, which could introduce vulnerabilities. He called for diversification of suppliers and stronger local manufacturing to mitigate risks associated with global supply chain disruptions.

Adedokun urged INEC to prioritize transparency and discipline in procurement processes to boost credibility and public confidence in future elections.
