Neymar Hints at Retirement Amid Injury Concerns

Brazilian superstar Neymar has suggested that he may retire from professional football at the end of the year due to recurring injuries that have cast doubt on the final phase of his career. Despite this uncertainty, he remains focused on participating in the last FIFA World Cup.

Neymar, a former player for FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, is set to return to his boyhood club, Santos FC, in January 2025 after a stint with Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal. He is currently recovering from knee surgery he underwent in late December 2023, which will cause him to miss the opening week of the Brazilian domestic season.

Neymar is expected to return to action on February 16, 2024, as a second-half substitute in a São Paulo State Championship match. In an interview, he expressed uncertainty about his future, stating, "I don’t know what will happen... when December comes, I’ll want to retire." Despite these challenges, Neymar remains Brazil's all-time leading scorer with 79 goals, surpassing the record previously held by football legend Pele.
