22 Kano Lawmakers Defect to APC from NNPP After Governor's Exit

In a significant political development, 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly have defected from the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the exit of Governor Yusuf. The defection was announced during a plenary session on January 26, after Governor Abba and President Bola Tinubu's visit.

Notable figures include Imran Muhammad, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. This move echoes a similar event in 2013 when Kwankwaso defected from NNPP to APC, bringing along a governorship mandate.

Yusuf Kofarmata, who recently resigned as the Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation in Kano, cited concerns over the state government's direction. The defection is seen as a strategic political maneuver in Kano State, known for its significant voting strength and political influence.
