Court Orders Final Forfeiture of N8.9bn from Achimugu

On Thursday, a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Jude Onwugbuzi, ordered the final forfeiture of assets valued at N8.9 billion belonging to businesswoman Aisha Achimugu. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed an application for the permanent forfeiture of these assets, arguing that they were linked to unlawful activities.

The court's order includes the forfeiture of jewelry worth N4.65 billion, 11 exotic vehicles valued at N4.29 billion, and cash totaling N50,000, along with an additional N30 million. The judgment signifies a milestone in the EFCC's ongoing campaign to recover assets suspected to have been acquired through financial crime.

The court's ruling transfers ownership of the forfeited assets to the federal government, unless overturned by a higher court. The EFCC's approach to asset recovery is a critical strategy in combating economic crime in Nigeria.
