ADC Fails to Secure Abuja Venue Ahead of Convention

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) encountered a major setback just 24 hours before its planned national convention in Abuja, as it was unable to secure a venue. Party chieftain Kola Ologbondiyan attributed this failure to alleged interference by the Bola Tinubu government.

The ADC had sought approval to use Eagle Square but received no response from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Ministry. Attempts to secure alternative venues, including the Moshood Abiola National Stadium and the Velodrome, were unsuccessful due to fears of potential backlash from the government.

Despite these challenges, the ADC remains committed to holding its convention on April 14, 2026, and has issued a notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The situation is further complicated by ongoing leadership disputes within the party, with rival factions led by David Mark and Nafiu Bala battling for control following the resignation of former chairman Ralph Nwosu.

Prominent opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, have protested at INEC headquarters, accusing the federal government of undermining opposition parties.
