Akpabio Declares Three Senate Seats Vacant for By-Elections

On Tuesday, during a plenary session, Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, announced the declaration of three Senate seats as vacant due to the death of a member of the 10th Senate. The seats affected include the Enugu North Senatorial District, Nasarawa North Senatorial District, and Rivers South East Senatorial District.

Akpabio emphasized that these vacancies were created as a result of the tragic demise of his colleague. He invoked the provisions of the constitution, mandating the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh elections to fill these vacant seats.

The commission is required to ensure that the elections are held within the specified timeframe of 30 days following the declaration of the vacancies.
