Akpabio Declares Ondo South Senate Seat Vacant

Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, officially declared the Ondo South Senate seat vacant during a plenary session on Tuesday. This decision follows Jimoh Ibrahim's resumption of office as Nigeria's permanent representative to the United Nations in Washington DC.

The declaration of vacancy is effective immediately, in accordance with constitutional provisions that mandate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct elections to fill the seat within 30 days. Jimoh Ibrahim, a businessman and politician, represents the Ondo South Senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He was appointed and confirmed as Nigeria's permanent representative to the UN last month, marking the official start of his duties. During the ceremony, Ibrahim conveyed President Bola Tinubu's goodwill and commended António Guterres for his leadership, emphasizing Africa's role within the UN system and advocating for a permanent African seat on the UN Security Council.
