Akpabio Declares Ondo South Senate Seat Vacant

On Tuesday, during a plenary session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio officially declared the Ondo South Senate seat vacant. This announcement follows the recent appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria's permanent representative to the United Nations, marking the end of his tenure in the Senate.

The declaration takes immediate effect in accordance with constitutional provisions that guide such transitions. Akpabio noted that the Senate had no option but to formally declare the seat vacant to initiate the replacement process.

He directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct elections within the next 30 days to fill the vacant position. Additionally, he instructed the Clerk of the National Assembly to formally communicate the Senate's resolution to INEC, ensuring swift action to prevent delays in representing the people of Ondo South.
