Baba Ijesha Released After 3 Years for Sexual Assault

Olanrewaju Omiyinka, widely known as Baba Ijesha, has regained his freedom after spending three years in custody due to allegations of sexual assault. He was released on November 14, 2025, following a ruling by an appeal court that cleared the charges against him.

This decision marks a significant turn in a case that has sparked nationwide outrage and divided public opinion across Nigeria. Baba Ijesha had previously been sentenced to 16 years in prison on July 14, 2022, by a Lagos State High Court after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

His release was confirmed by fellow actor Yomi Fabiyi through an Instagram post, expressing happiness over the court's decision and emphasizing that Baba Ijesha is "not just back, but better." The case has highlighted issues surrounding the legal system and public sentiment regarding sexual assault in Nigeria.
