Court of Appeal Dismisses PDP's Ibadan Convention Appeal

On Monday, the Court of Appeal in Abuja dismissed an appeal filed by the People's Democratic Party (PDP) concerning its convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, scheduled for November 15-16. The three-member panel delivered a unanimous judgment, stating that the appeal lacked merit and resolved four issues raised against the party.

The court affirmed the ruling made by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court on October 31, which granted relief to the plaintiffs, including a restraining order against INEC from recognizing the outcomes of the planned convention. The Court of Appeal rejected the PDP's argument that the Federal High Court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the suit, emphasizing that the issues raised pertained to the internal affairs of the party.

The panel ruled that the PDP was not denied a fair hearing, contrary to its claims. Additionally, the court ordered the PDP to pay costs of 2 million Naira for filing what it described as a frivolous appeal.
