Court Upholds Legality of 2025 PDP Convention in Ibadan

On November 3, 2025, the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan, presided over by Justice Ladiran Akintola, validated the legality of the 2025 People's Democratic Party (PDP) elective convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025. The court ruled that the convention complied with constitutional and statutory provisions, thereby settling disputes regarding its legitimacy.

The judgment followed an amended original summons filed by Misibau Adetunmbi, SAN, on behalf of claimants Folahan Malomo and Adelabi, in suit number 1336/2025. The court examined the compliance with statutory requirements, including notifications to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Justice Akintola emphasized that the failure to conduct the convention would violate the right to peaceful assembly. The court dismissed a motion filed by Austin Nwachukwu and others seeking to halt the convention, describing their application as lacking merit.

The ruling confirmed that the PDP is bound by the law, including INEC regulations, pending any contrary decision from a higher court.
