Court Rejects Bid to Bar Senator Ireti Kingibe from ADC

On Thursday, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, declined an ex parte application seeking to bar Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The court ruled against the request made by ward leaders from Wuse in the Federal Capital Territory, who alleged that Kingibe was involved in anti-party activities.

Justice Lifu emphasized that the court exercised its judicial discretion, particularly in political matters, and directed the plaintiff to notify Kingibe, enabling her to respond to the allegations. The case will be adjourned until April 20, 2026, for further hearing.

The plaintiffs, Okezuo Anayo and Isaiah Samuel, claimed that Kingibe's actions constituted gross misconduct and disregarded the party's constitution. They sought an interim injunction to restrain her from performing functions as a party member pending the determination of their motion.

The plaintiffs' lawyer, Abubakar Marshal, informed the court of preliminary objections to the suit.
