Court Sacks Zamfara Rep for Defecting from PDP to APC, Orders Seat Vacant

The Federal High Court in Abuja has sacked Hon. Abubakar Gummi, a House of Representatives member from Zamfara State, for defecting from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The court held that Gummi's defection constituted a breach of the constitution, ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare his seat vacant within 30 days. The judgment, delivered by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, also directed Gummi to refund salaries received since his defection and imposed a fine of N500,000 against him.

The ruling emphasized the need for politicians to uphold party loyalty and warned against reckless party hopping.
