Nigerian Court Sacks Zamfara Lawmaker for Defection, Citing "Political Prostitution"

The Federal High Court in Abuja has sacked Hon. Abubakar Gummi, a lawmaker representing Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency in Zamfara State House of Representatives, for defecting from the PDP to the APC.

The court deemed his defection unconstitutional and ordered the Speaker of the House to stop recognizing him. The judgment highlighted the negative impact of political defections on the electoral process and emphasized the need to respect the mandate of voters.

The ruling aims to discourage "political prostitution" and uphold constitutional provisions regarding party defections.
