Court to Hear Suit Against Rivers APC Candidate Chinda

A court sitting in Port Harcourt has set December 10 for a hearing in a suit seeking to disqualify Kingsley Chinda, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, from participating in the 2027 general election. The suit was filed by Samuel Amatonjie against six respondents, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Chinda, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the APC, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Clerk of the National Assembly.
Amatonjie, who is also the plaintiff's counsel, described the suit as public interest litigation aimed at determining whether Chinda's transition from the PDP to the APC adhered to constitutional requirements. The case was adjourned to allow the defense team, represented by Paul Dauda, SAN, additional time to respond to the plaintiff's submissions.
The plaintiff has requested subpoenas for documents from INEC and other parties to support his claims regarding Chinda's alleged defection.
