Kano officials target millions of non-indigene votes for Tinubu in 2027

Governor Abba Yusuf and federal lawmakers launch voter mobilisation drive among Yoruba and other non-indigenous communities in Kano ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has laid out his strategy to attract significant electoral backing from the state's non-indigenous population in support of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress during the 2027 general elections. At an empowerment event held Saturday, October 31, the governor made his position clear.

Federal lawmaker Leke Joseph Abejide, who serves constituencies in Kogi State's Yagba region, organised the gathering. Abejide seized the moment to directly address Yoruba, Ebira, Igala and Bassa communities residing across Kano.

His call asked these groups to rally behind the APC ticket. Reporting on the event reveals some variation regarding vote targets: certain outlets mention one million as the goal, while others point to two million.

Alongside his political messaging, Abejide announced economic support for women. The loan initiative, valued between N500 million and N600 million, would operate as an interest-free revolving fund targeted at business development for widows and female entrepreneurs in these non-indigenous populations.

Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello joined the campaign effort, making a striking commitment. He indicated willingness to spend up to two weeks in Kano personally campaigning for both Tinubu and Governor Yusuf.

Bello appealed to non-indigenous voters for cohesion and coordination, arguing this would allow them to surpass their 2023 electoral performance. The broader political context shows the APC expanding its electoral reach in anticipation of 2027.

Kano, Nigeria's second most populous state and long considered a northern political stronghold, has emerged as a strategic arena for cross-regional political partnerships. This effort merges direct voter engagement at the grassroots level with targeted economic programmes.

Female business owners and economically disadvantaged households within these communities constitute the primary beneficiaries of the financial assistance component.
