DSS Arrests Suspect Linked to Attack on Peter Obi

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a 26-year-old suspect named Udem Mondai Stephen in connection with an assassination attempt on Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate, and other party members in Edo State. The attack took place on February 24, 2023, when armed men fired several gunshots during a party meeting in Benin City.

Stephen, who is a teacher at Jessica High School in River State, claimed responsibility for the attack via a post on social media, threatening further violence against Obi. Following this threat, the DSS initiated a covert investigation, employing forensic analysis to track down the suspect.

Security sources indicated that Stephen would soon face charges in court. The DSS emphasized its commitment to counter-espionage and the protection of VIPs, regardless of tribe or religion, and swiftly acted upon credible intelligence regarding the threats made against Obi.
