DSS Arrests Officers Over Abuja Airport Security Breach

On February 12, 2026, five security officers were arrested in connection with a serious security breach at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The incident involved unauthorized access to restricted areas, raising significant concerns about the integrity of Nigeria's aviation security framework.

The arrests were made following a coordinated investigation by the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). Among those detained were Ayuba Yakubu from the Nigeria Police Force and Murtala Inuwa from the DSS, along with Najeeb Murtala from the Immigration Service and aviation security personnel Musa Adamu and Salihu Victor.

The suspects allegedly admitted to receiving bribes to facilitate unauthorized access, compromising established security protocols. The government has emphasized a zero-tolerance stance on corruption within the aviation sector.

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) is expected to proceed with formal charges against the suspects.
