Security Breach at Airport Leads to Detention of Officers

On February 12, a significant security breach occurred at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport during the arrival of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasiru el-Rufai from Cairo. Following this incident, five security personnel were detained as part of a joint investigation conducted by the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Immigration Service, and Nigeria Customs Service.

The investigation revealed that the officers, including Ayuba Yakubu (Assistant Superintendent of Police), Murtala Inuwa (DSS), Najeeb Murtala (Assistant Superintendent of Immigration), and two aviation security officers, Musa Adamu and Salihu Victor, confessed to receiving bribes to facilitate unauthorized entry into restricted areas of the airport. This action was described as an unprecedented compromise of airport security protocols.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is also involved, investigating allegations of financial fraud against el-Rufai. Personnel found abusing their official uniforms will face administrative sanctions.
