EFCC Detains El-Rufai Amid Corruption Investigations

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday night after being interrogated for several hours regarding allegations of financial mismanagement and corruption linked to a multi-billion naira investigation. El-Rufai arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 10 AM in response to an invitation to discuss claims contained in a 2024 Kaduna State House of Assembly report.

This report accused his administration of financial mismanagement, abuse of office, and irregular loan utilization, alleging that N423 billion was siphoned, leaving the state with significant liabilities. The EFCC's spokesman, Dele Oyewale, confirmed El-Rufai's detention, stating that the investigation stemmed from a legislative report presented by an ad hoc committee reviewing financial loan contracts awarded between 2015 and 2023.

Additionally, the DSS has reopened the case of Dadiyata, and El-Rufai faces separate criminal charges in a federal high court for allegedly unlawfully intercepting communications linked to national security advisories.
