El-Rufai Faces Corruption Charges in Kaduna Court

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday morning, March 24, 2026, under tight security for his arraignment by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). He was escorted to the court premises in a Hilux vehicle and remained inside for approximately 30 minutes before entering the courtroom at 9:34 AM.

El-Rufai, dressed in a light green babanriga and matching cap, faces multiple charges, including the conversion and possession of public property and money laundering. He is being arraigned alongside Joel Adoga under suit number FHC/KD/73/2026.

The ICPC's statement, issued by its head of media and public communication, John Odei, outlined the charges, which also include abuse of office and fraud. El-Rufai was initially detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 16, 2026, granted bail on February 18, and later re-arrested by the ICPC.

The security presence around the court was significantly heightened due to the high-profile nature of the case.
