El-Rufai Faces Corruption Charges in Kaduna Court

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna on March 24, 2026, for his long-awaited arraignment on corruption charges. He was escorted to the courtroom around 9:00 AM in a Hilux vehicle, with tight security measures in place, including personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force.

The charges against El-Rufai, filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), include allegations of conversion and possession of public property and money laundering. The case, referenced as suit number FHC/KD/73/2026, also involves separate allegations of abuse of office and fraud in another case against him at the Kaduna State High Court.

El-Rufai was initially detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on February 16, 2026, granted bail two days later, and subsequently re-arrested by the ICPC. The court proceedings are expected to unfold further in the coming weeks.
