Ex-Rivers Administrator Ibas Rejects Assembly's Probe, Questions Authority

Former Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibas, rejected the Rivers State House Assembly's decision to probe his six-month spending tenure. Ibas argued that the lawmakers lacked the authority to investigate as his appointment came directly from President Bola Tinubu.

The Assembly had resolved to investigate the state's expenditure during the emergency rule. Civil society groups also called for a full inquiry into alleged mismanagement of public funds.

The probe was seen as a challenge to the authority of the President and the National Assembly. Ibas maintained that the move was a fool's errand led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

The investigation aimed to uncover financial discrepancies during Ibas' administration.
