FG Mandates Tax ID for Financial Transactions Starting 2026

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced that possessing a Taxpayer Identification Number (Tax ID) will be mandatory for all taxable individuals and businesses engaging in financial transactions starting January 1, 2026. The directive, outlined in the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025, aims to modernize tax administration, broaden the tax base, and enhance revenue generation.

Failure to comply with the Tax ID requirement may result in denial of services, as per the new legislation. The Act mandates registration for all taxable persons, including companies providing taxable goods or services in Nigeria, across federal, state, and local government levels, ensuring broader tax compliance and revenue collection.
