BREAKING: FG responds to backlash over Kwam 1’s ‘ambassador’ appointment

Minister of Aviation Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, addressed the backlash over the appointment of popular musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, also known as KWAM 1, as an ambassador. Keyamo explained that it is a common practice globally to appoint an offender who has shown remorse as an ambassador to speak on behavior.

He emphasized that this is not the first time such an approach has been adopted in Nigeria. Keyamo clarified that the ambassadorial role given to KWAM 1 is a prestigious appointment for unpaid community service.

He also mentioned another individual, Comfort Emmanson, who was involved in a separate incident and is being considered for a similar role in the aviation sector. Keyamo concluded by stating that regardless of public opinion, the government acted fairly in handling the matter.

The Minister highlighted that it is common practice worldwide for repentant offenders to publicly preach against the exact conduct they had repented from, akin to community service. He noted that while this may be a new concept in Nigeria.
