FG, SSANU, NASU, NAAT Finalize 2009 Agreement Renegotiation

The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), has concluded the long-awaited renegotiation of the 2009 agreement. The negotiations, which took place at the National Universities Commission (NUC) headquarters in Abuja, resulted in an agreement for a 35% salary increase for non-teaching university staff.

This outcome was confirmed by Comrade Moham Haruna Ibrahim, the chairman of the Joint Action Committee (JAC). Although the unions initially sought a 40% salary increase, the Federal Government cited fiscal constraints as a reason for the lower increase.

The agreement marks the end of a protracted renegotiation process that had caused significant tension within Nigeria's public university system. Further details of the agreement are expected to be released following consultations among the union leadership.
