BREAKING: FG Suspends All Land Allocations on Islands, Lagoons In Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has suspended all land allocations on islands and lagoons across the country. The directive, announced by the Secretary to the Federation, Abduganiyu Adegbomehin, follows a presidential order issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 30, 2025.

The moratorium aims to regulate shoreline, coastal road, island, and lagoon development for federal legacy infrastructure projects nationwide. All existing and pending land allocation applications must be resubmitted to the Office of the Secretary to the Federation for proper coordination in line with the National Geospatial Data Infrastructure Policy.

The government warned that any development encroaching on these areas without proper survey clearance would be demolished. The National Inland Waterways Authority has also been directed to submit past approvals granted for lagoon and shoreline projects to the Presidency via the OSGOF and to cease issuing new approvals.

This move consolidates the authority of the OSGOF in regulating and harmonizing survey activities in Nigeria.
