Lagos Halts Reclamation Projects Without EIA Approval

The Lagos State government has ordered the immediate suspension of all reclamation projects across the state without Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval. Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, highlighted concerns over unauthorized reclamation activities in wetlands, floodplains, and lagoons in areas like Parkview, Banana Island, and Lekki.

The government emphasized the environmental and social risks posed by these projects, including increased flooding vulnerability and disruption of livelihoods. Wahab stated that approved reclamation projects must be resubmitted with proper documentation to prevent further environmental degradation and protect the state's fragile ecosystem.
