Abubakar Malami Released After Weeks in DSS Detention

Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has been released after several weeks in detention by the Department of State Services (DSS). His legal issues intensified earlier this year when he was taken into custody under dramatic circumstances related to a money laundering case involving billions of naira.

Reports indicate that Malami's arrest occurred just moments before he was able to secure bail at Kuje Correctional Centre. Following his release, he has returned to his private residence.

The DSS's investigation into Malami reportedly focuses on serious allegations concerning his handling of sensitive terror financing matters linked to the UAE in 2021. The situation took a significant turn last week when the current Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi, formally took over the prosecution of the case during a session at the Federal High Court in Abuja, following a government request for time to review the case file to ensure a thorough legal process.
