Former Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam Resigns from PDP Citing Internal Conflicts

Former Benue State Governor and ex-Senator Gabriel Suswam has announced his resignation from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in a letter dated February 4, 2026. Suswam, who served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2007, Governor of Benue State from 2007 to 2015, and Senator from 2019 to 2023, expressed gratitude for the opportunities the party provided him over the years.

However, he lamented the party's drift from its foundational values, internal democracy, and progress as an opposition party. Suswam highlighted the lack of consensus, disciplinary breakdown, and ideological disagreements within the PDP as reasons for his departure.

He found it increasingly difficult to reconcile his personal convictions with the current state of the party. While Suswam did not disclose his next political move, he expressed hope for the party to resolve its internal contradictions.
