Nasiru Gawuna Defects to ADC from APC in Kano

Nasiru Gawuna, a former governorship candidate in Kano State, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). His registration with the ADC took place on Tuesday in Nasarawa Local Government Area, attracting a large crowd of supporters.

Key political figures, including former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the immediate past Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo, attended the ceremony. Gawuna expressed gratitude to the APC for the platform it provided during his political career, noting that his decision to leave was personal.

He officially resigned from the APC on March 29, 2026, with his resignation from the board of directors of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria taking effect on March 31, 2026. This move follows a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which required political appointees to resign in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Gawuna described his public service experience as a privilege and committed to strengthening the ADC's structure across Kano State.
