Jonathan Ratified as PDP Candidate for 2027 Elections

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has emerged as the sole presidential candidate for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 general elections, as ratified by the Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the party. The ratification ceremony took place in Abuja on a Saturday morning and was attended by notable dignitaries, including Fred Agbedi, who received the certificate on Jonathan's behalf, and other party stakeholders such as Prof.

Jerri Gana and Adolphus Wabara. The event was marked by heavy security, with police sealing off the venue and blocking access following an order from the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

This lockdown was described as a security measure to prevent public disturbances, with threats to revoke land titles for violations. The situation arose amid accusations from the PDP faction supporting Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who claimed that Wike was using state power to suppress opposition.

The event lasted less than 20 minutes.
