PDP Faction to Ratify Jonathan as Presidential Candidate

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) faction, led by Kabiru Turaki, will hold a special national convention on Saturday to formally ratify former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections. The event is scheduled to take place at the class event center in Wuse 2, Abuja, starting at 10 AM.

The faction's screening committee, chaired by former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, granted Jonathan a waiver on May 19, allowing him to be the sole presidential aspirant. A Federal High Court in Abuja ruled on Tuesday that Jonathan is eligible to participate in the 2027 presidential elections, dismissing a suit that sought to bar him from contesting.

The court described the suit as an abuse of court process. Jonathan, who served as president from 2010 to 2015, has not publicly confirmed his intent to contest but has indicated he will consult widely before making a decision.
