PDP to Announce Goodluck Jonathan as 2027 Candidate

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is scheduled to hold a special national convention on Saturday to formally ratify Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections. The event will commence at 10:00 AM at the Class Event Centre in Wuse 2, Abuja, as confirmed by an official invitation.

The convention aims to solidify Jonathan's candidacy, following a decision by a faction of the PDP led by Kabiru Turaki, which will conduct its presidential primary election on May 28. The party remains divided into two main factions, one loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the other to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

A recent ruling by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a lawsuit attempting to block Jonathan's candidacy, affirming that the plaintiff lacked legal standing. Jonathan, who served as president from 2010 to 2015, previously conceded defeat to Muhammadu Buhari and is now seeking a comeback.
