Adamawa Residents Protest Over Two-Month Power Outage

A fresh protest occurred in Adamawa State as residents from Girei and Song Local Government Areas barricaded the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) headquarters due to over two months of continuous power outages. The demonstrators, who arrived in large numbers with placards, prevented access to the YEDC office, forcing employees to turn back.

The residents accused YEDC of failing to restore electricity despite previous meetings and assurances from the company. They expressed that the prolonged blackout has severely affected businesses, healthcare services, and education, leading to a loss of confidence in YEDC's ability to provide reliable electricity.

Protesters demanded intervention from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Adamawa State Government, insisting they would continue the demonstration until electricity is restored. One protester stated, “We will continue this protest until electricity is restored,” highlighting the dire consequences of the outage on their daily lives.
