INEC Unveils Timetable for 2027 General Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially released the timetable for Nigeria's 2027 general elections during a press conference in Abuja on Friday, February 13, 2026. The Chairman of INEC clarified that earlier reports claiming the timetable had already been published were inaccurate.

This announcement follows the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act of 2022, which was amended to guide the planning and conduct of elections across the country. According to INEC, the presidential elections are scheduled for February 20, 2027, while the governorship and senatorial elections will take place on March 6, 2027.

The electoral body emphasized that the timetable is intended to give political parties and candidates sufficient time to prepare for the polls. INEC assured Nigerians of its commitment to conducting transparent and credible elections, with further details and guidelines to be released in due course.
