INEC Denies Releasing 2027 General Election Timetable, Cites Legal Compliance

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied reports suggesting the release of the 2027 General Election timetable. Adedayo Oketola, the Chief Press Secretary to the media adviser of the INEC Chairman, clarified that the Commission has not published any schedule for the 2027 polls.

INEC stressed its commitment to operating strictly within the provisions of the law, citing the requirement in the Electoral Act 2022 for the Commission to publish election notices no later than 360 days before the fixed election date. INEC assured Nigerians that the official timetable for the 2027 General Election will be released in compliance with the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act.

The Commission urged the public to disregard fake reports and rely only on official INEC platforms for accurate information.
