INEC Finalizes 2027 Election Timetable; Senate Reviews Electoral Act Amendment Bill

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria has concluded the 2027 election timetable and activities schedule, as disclosed by the INEC Chairman during a meeting with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Abuja. The INEC Chairman, Amupitan, confirmed submitting the final work to the National Assembly regarding the ongoing Electoral Act Amendment.

The Senate spent four hours considering the report of a seven-member ad hoc committee on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, but the deliberations ended inconclusively. The Senate's review of the bill is crucial for the 2027 elections, as it aims to amend the existing Electoral Act.
