INEC Declares Mohammed Kasim Winner of Gwagwalada Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Mohammed Kasim of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Gwagwalada area council chairmanship election, which took place on February 21, 2026. The results were disclosed in the early hours of Sunday following the polls.

Mohammed Kasim secured a total of 22,165 votes, leading to his declaration as the winner and his return to office. His closest competitor, Prof.

Philip Akpeni of the All Progressives Congress (APC), received 17,788 votes, while Biko Umar of the Progress Grand Alliance (APGA) came in third with 1,687 votes. The election was conducted across 10 wards in Gwagwalada, which include Paiko, Dobi, Gwako, Ibwa, Staff Quarters, Zuba, Ikwa, Kutunku, Gwagwalada Central, and Tunga Maje.

The INEC confirmed that Mohammed Kasim met all the necessary legal requirements to be declared the winner.
