PDP Celebrates Gwagwalada Election Victory Amid Concerns

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) celebrated its victory in the Gwagwalada area council election, where Moham Kasim was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with 22,165 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Yahaya Shehu, who garnered 17,788 votes. PDP's public secretary, Ini Ememobong, expressed that the victory was particularly gratifying given the backdrop of unprecedented intimidation and political violence during the elections.

The party reported instances of armed security personnel influencing voter behavior and called for the establishment of a special legal team, led by Shafi Bara, to address any grievances related to the elections. The PDP attributed the low voter turnout to widespread apathy and a loss of confidence in the electoral process, urging the National Assembly and the presidency to implement urgent reforms to prevent a collapse of democracy in the nation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
