PDP's Mohammed Kasim Wins Gwagwalada Council Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Mohammed Kasim of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The announcement was made by the returning officer, Professor Philip Akpeni, on Sunday following the election held on February 21, 2026.

Kasim emerged victorious with a total of 22,165 votes. His closest rival, Yahaya Usman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), received 17,788 votes, while Biko Umar of the Progress Grand Alliance (PGA) came in third with 1,687 votes.

The election was conducted across the ten wards of Gwagwalada, including Paiko, Dobi, Gwako, Ibwa, Staff Quarter, Zuba, Ikwa, Kutunku, Gwagwalada Central, and Tunga Maje.
