INEC Suspends Officer Over Emeka Ike Voter Data Leak

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended an electoral officer due to allegations of unauthorized disclosure of voter registration details related to Nollywood actor and politician Emeka Ike. The announcement was made by INEC Chairman Moham Haruna during a fireside chat organized by the Peer Advocacy and Advancement Centre for Africa (PAACA) in Abuja.

The controversy arose following the circulation of Emeka Ike's voter registration details online amid disputes concerning political party primaries in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Preliminary investigations by INEC indicated that there was no external breach of its information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure.

Instead, it was revealed that the electoral officer accessed the voter information using valid login credentials assigned to them while participating in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. INEC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the voter register and stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
