INEC Registers Two New Political Parties for 2027 General Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the registration of two new political parties, Democrat Leadership Alliance (DLA) and Nigeria Democrat Congress (NDC), in preparation for the 2027 General Election. This decision was announced by INEC Chairman, Prof.

Joash Amupitan, during the commission's first regular consultative meeting with political parties. The registration process involved 171 political associations, with 14 meeting the initial prequalification criteria.

Eight of these successfully uploaded required documents to INEC's registration portal, including DLA and NDC. The final assessment and verification led to the qualification of these two parties.

Amupitan emphasized the importance of compliance with legal requirements and warned against internal leadership crises and excessive litigation within political parties. Additionally, he urged parties to mobilize support for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the voter registration deadline.

The registration of NDC was in compliance with a Federal High Court order issued in Lokoja, Kogi State. The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) also called for transparency and fairness in the electoral process, emphasizing the need for dispute resolution mechanisms to prevent electoral crises.
