Kano Governor Abba Yusuf Nominates Murtala Garo as Deputy

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has officially nominated Murtala Garo for the position of Deputy Governor, a move communicated to the Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday for screening and subsequent confirmation. This nomination comes after the voluntary resignation of former Deputy Governor Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026.

Governor Yusuf's decision is rooted in the legal framework provided by Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which grants the governor the authority to appoint a new deputy when the position becomes vacant. The nomination process involved extensive dialogue with various political community leaders and stakeholders to ensure that Garo's selection reflects a broad consensus within the state.

Murtala Garo, aged 48, brings over twenty years of public service experience, having served as the State Organizing Secretary for a political party and as a special advisor to the Kano State Governor. His grassroots experience includes serving as the elected chairman of Kabo Local Government Area and leading the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) within Kano State.
