Kwankwaso Threatens NDC Exit Over Kano Candidates' List

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a prominent figure in the New Democratic Congress (NDC), has allegedly threatened to leave the party due to the rejection of a candidates' list submitted by the Kwankwasiyya bloc. This internal crisis has intensified within the Kano State chapter of the NDC, particularly after the party enforced a strict 60-40 power-sharing formula.

Hussaini Isah Mairiga, the Kano State NDC chairman, confirmed that adjustments were necessary to correct alleged breaches of the agreement regarding electoral tickets. Kwankwaso's camp had expected to retain 60 percent of the candidates, but the revised list included several replacements that did not align with their expectations.

The NDC's national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, reportedly instructed Kwankwaso to implement the agreed-upon share formula, which has sparked backlash from the Kwankwasiyya camp, accusing the faction of attempting to hijack the state structure. This turmoil comes just weeks after Kwankwaso's defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC.
