Lecturers at Enugu College Begin Two-Week Strike

On June 3, 2026, lecturers at the Federal College of Education (FCE) Eha-Amufu in Enugu State initiated a two-week warning strike, following the provost's refusal to address critical grievances. The Collegiate Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) declared the industrial action after the provost's management team failed to resolve deep-seated issues despite being given ample opportunity to avert the crisis.

The union had previously issued a seven-day ultimatum on May 21, 2026, detailing urgent matters requiring administrative intervention. The provost was accused of treating the lecturers' grievances with disdain and failing to engage in meaningful negotiations.

The COEASU leadership established a task force to monitor compliance across departments and announced that no academic evaluations would occur during the strike period. The union's statement was signed by Chidi Nathaniel Agbo, chairman, and Nwachukwu Simon Amadi, secretary, and copies were sent to various high-ranking officials, including the Minister of Education and the chairman of the governing council.
